Some of the chicks have been moved to the brooder and the test hatch chicks have been moved out to the grow out pen. I only know what 2 of them are (that are from the shipped eggs). One is a bantam Welsummer and one is a standard Welsummer. Cute little things. Pics to come once everyone has hatched that's going to hatch.
It's chirping. Moving around as much as brand new chicks do. I'm hopeful! I help if I can. This little one will need a bit more cleaning done if his head, but I want to give it a chance to rest. I don't want to lose any of them if I can help it!
Hey everyone! Been a rough couple of weeks. We went to the OB on Monday and got the official gestation length and due date though!
Baby is (as of today) 9 weeks 3 days. We got our first ultrasound image and everything! Baby is due 15 November.
Store update: Got a slightly negative review, but they were very nice about it and I contacted them to ask them what I can do to either fix it or clear up any perceived issues. Haven't heard back but I have the feeling that this one won't go the way of the other person, who was just an awful and rude person to deal with. I offered them a free replacement order if the problems are just completely unfixable too.
Homestead update: chickens are doing great! We're deworming today though, so that's always fun. Rooster is very chill, not one issue or anything. He doesn't seem to be overmating with anyone, he's protective without being aggressive, and while he runs away from people he's slowly warming up to us. The garden is set to be tilled when we can rent a rototiller, but I have the roof boxes going already with garlic, onions, strawberries, lettuce, celery, and two kinds of cabbage. Also got thyme, tarragon, rosemary, comfrey, echinacea, bluebonnets, poppies, and borage planted so they should sprout in a short while.
Easter is this weekend, but I can't relax because next Tuesday is my exam results for my classes. If I pass then the 24th I start my second level. I'm thinking that we should make our US trip earlier than the promised 15 July, probably closer to 24 June or something to avoid pregnancy-related travel restrictions. I'll be 6 months in July, which is just barely under the third trimester when most doctors say not to travel.
Quote: Oh heavens no - I reached right down and touched it - I just misjudged the position of the stalk and it broke, and then I pulled up and turned the other part over as well. There are a bunch of them (am I going to get an answer, or are you just gonna razz me?!
)
No, I'm not one bit squeamish. First thing this morning I fed the red wrigglers in the worm farm with scraps, egg shells and their favorite treat, coffee grounds - some people try to use a little hand rake or something to make the pocket for the new food - I just use my hand, and then pile a layer of worms + bedding on top of the food.
Good morning everybody Hope everyone is well.No dying eggs for me this year-letting the chicken take care of it-they break a lot less than I do anyway
Been a rough few days after seeing the Dr.and knowing that everything is going to be complicated-from getting the care I need to dealing with workmans comp. My friends neighbor has RSD and has an exceptional dr that specializes in treating it and I am going to advocate for myself and request to start seeing him since there is no more orthopedic intervention at this point.
This is a link to what I have been diagnosed with. It is sad that there are so many things that could have been avoided or done differently that could have helped my pain and prognosis. I am just going to try to enjoy Easter weekend, relax a bit and try to get little things done around here. I am still adjusting to changes in medication. I have an amazing PCP who is not charging me for seeing him to make sure I am getting the best care possible until I can see a specialist. (I have great insurance but it won't pay for anything related to my injury). Thank you for your friendship and support during this rough time.

LMAO, it actually took me a minute to stop laughing too hard to help.

I will be so glad when the sell/trade ban is lifted, so I can get rid of this crazy rooster. He attacked me when I opened the coop door to fill the feeder this morning. I gave him a stern talking to about how he shouldn't attack the hand that feeds him. He was less than impressed.

This is an excellent option - a strong water gun, or the hose, is a good way to deal with something like this is you need to keep him for other reasons. It can whip them in shape as well.

Water gun or hose os better - no contact needed (so no need to catch him or risk injury to you or him), and trust me, he will HATE it, AND act pretty humiliated. He'll learn right quick...
Quote: Skunks sprayed under my house a few days ago. It has been horrible (alas, it's not the first time). Good thing I don't have house guests often...
Had to help out a hatchling. Pipped but didn't make any further progress. Poor little thing had the membrane stuck on its head/neck. Yolk sack completely absorbed. I cleaned off most of the dried up membrane from its head. Put it back in to rest and dry off. I'll check on it frequently. I know chicks that need help sometimes don't thrive. I'll sure try my best though! Humidity in the incubator has been a steady 68-72%, so I don't think that was it. Keeping my fingers crossed it will do ok!
Getting a late start because I was up late, but I need to get going on some chores ad errands. Then I am getting my hair cut - it is straight and very long, and now that it's approaching my waist again, I have reached the "I have HAD it with this" point, which happens every couple years. Will get a big chunk whacked off and it'll be so much easier for summer. The only requirement is that it still go up in a ponytail or bun.
Great to hear form you - thanks for the update! Me, too!!! Good point... Good morning! Well, ok afternoon. (I was up until 3am because I was silly enough to start dealing with the mustard really late. Taking the day off.) Thanks for the coffee!!!! Oh heavens no - I reached right down and touched it - I just misjudged the position of the stalk and it broke, and then I pulled up and turned the other part over as well. Y'all DO realize what Davy Crockett said, right? I'm glad you know of a good doctor for RSD - good luck in your efforts to switch to him - makes total sense. (Did Banti get that joke?)

I'm thinking I could let my daughter handle the super soaker while I did chicken chores, but she would probably hit me with the super soaker and miss the rooster. You could ask Abi about how bad I screamed when my daughter 'accidentally' turned the hose on me a few weeks ago. @MotorcycleChick
