Despite the rotten start, pretty decent day. In the morning was teaching in our largest classroom (set up for small group work) - it has the very best view on campus, always makes me smile.

Then additional work, some one on one teaching in the afternoon, then home. I promptly crashed ("just closing my eyes for a minute") - several hours later, I woke up and realized that no building work is getting done today (my hands/wrists are still swollen, so that's probably for the best). I'll just need to do more tomorrow. I'm going to try to go to bed early and get some catch-up sleep tonight. I know I'm getting old now - I was invited to a big party tonight (for Fiesta) with good friends and adult beverages, but sleep is vastly more appealing.

Went out to collect eggs at dusk, caught that little baby possum mid-stride int eh center of the coop floor. It had that look on it's face like, "busted" (and I'm sure it remembers that I'm the one that gave it its unpleasant ride through the air yesterday. Skipped the photojournalism this time and just donned the orange gloves, grabbed it by the tail, put it in a paper sack, put paper sack inside an old potting soil bag, and sorta kinda dropped a big 20 pound stone on the top of it. Repeatedly. (I think it was the same one - I will keep watching in case it wasn't.) (Sorry Kajira)

Don't worry, I didn't really want to let my daughter have it, anyways!

I got adventurous and got squash and zucchini spirals to use in place of noodles, to see if kids would eat them as a side dish.
did it work?
i have heard spaghetti squash does

Also - my mommy chick is a great mommy, but one of the chicks was stupid and drowned itself in a goat pool we leave out for the bigger chickens to bathe in, and the goats to drink out of. :( :(

so, we are now down to 10, from 11.

Which was sad, because it was one of the 2, grey chicks.

The other are like a white leg horn X EE cross....... so the chicks are spotted and I have no idea *** they are going to look like when they are grown.
sorry

Agree, but it's a bit addictive/dangerous. (I've got an angle grinder on it's way - to be fair, I've needed an angle grinder for a while, but ripped one to many shirts this week on hanging ends and hurt my wrists using the tin snips on the HW cloth yesterday, and got fed up.)

agreed, i need to order things, but there are a lot of things in my cart

Pretty (for a city), glad you got rid of the possum

Air Canada's too busy throwing paying customers off their overbooked planes to worry about cookies.

Hello everyone it's been awhile. Any chicks hatched? My project birds are far outgrowing the Dark Cornish chicks. The neighbors broody is still on my hens eggs. Due this weekend

We could use snow here as well. Today is last cool day for awhile. 88 next week.
Hi

glad the birds are growing well

Good to be back. Roasted coffee tonight and had a fine brew from my friend.
sounds divine

Sally and others - here's the rabbit hole I fell down on Pinterest/Google last night when I couldn't sleep - gambion cages for landscaping. I have so many rocks, and plenty of bits of scrap welded wire, this is a no brainer!

hmmm, would look better without the cage, what if you put them in the cage then left the middle empty and filled with concrete then removed the cage?

I have just the spot for them, if I only had rocks....
come visit me! i live in the granite state AND i have PILES of field stone out in my woods

I do not own Pollacks,,,, I own a pollack, the rest ranaway in the sleet the other night..Stupid birds ran into the woods....They will never be seen again.
sorry

Nope, I was trying to catch them and put them back in their pen/cage because they were running around like chickens with their heads cut off over the sleet....

Every other bird I own went back inside on their own. I caught the three in a net tried to get one out and two escaped and ran in opposite directions into the woods... I have not bothered to go looking for them. I know they were eaten.
lol, i hope they come back for you

Makes enough sauerkraut to feed all of Québec and then some at a time? Doesn't brush his chooks' teeth enough? Debates for several pages on whether or not cattle roost? Lives on a sand dune? Raises giant toads? Has had some strange avatars?
hey now, i love sauerkraut

Children destroy our chances of sleep.
