EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Morning peeps,

Had some qoutes but lost them so let's see what I can remeber.

Keys--Keys rarely leave the truck ignition. Only exception being if I park somewhere unfamiliar. The van(family vehicle) gets locked even in our drivewway. :idunno
House door never gets locked unless we are home or leaving town.

The rooster i thought the fox got a few days ago showed back up yesterday afternoon(missing alot of feathers but otherwise seems fine) MIA for around 48hrs. Hen is still missing but I suspect he went in her defense and she didn't make it back. Interestingly enough I was more upset about losing the rooster. He's a backyard mix but a pretty boy and the only one I kept after processing.

Hmm missing alot of other stuff I wanted to comment on but cant go back at the moment.

Oh yeah the flooding. Good deal on the Dam being repaired, we set a record for the Neuse River when hurricane Mathew came through in Oct. Rainfall front of the week has us projected to be close to the previous record. The shop I work in will likely be flooded again front of next week but time will tell. The lake feeding the river is about an 60 miles away by crows flight so it takes a week or so for the volume of water to make it down here.

glad the rooster made it home, i am currently rooster-less and drake-less

I like smooshing spiders and that's about all I like in relation to them.

This reminds me, last Saturday, I opened my storage shed to get my weed eater out, and the LARGEST spider I have ever seen in my life was happily lounging on the side of the wall. The storage shed is now the spider's storage shed. It was literally as large as my palm - and I have GIANT hands! I did think fast enough to grab the weed eater, but the rest of the stuff, I can buy new ones! I might have to just torch the whole building.

GOOD MORNING! TGIF!!

Thanks so much, but I can't find them on the list.. they are Ameraucana eggs, real ones. I know I'm supposed to have wheaten and blue wheaten, the third, idk. I've asked my breeder, but haven't heard back from him/them yet. Idk what the M stands for in MW and MBW, and the BWWW I have no idea. Thank for replying, I just thought it might be an easy answer for somebody...

Thanks, that's probably a good assumption. I will just be patient and wait to hear from the breeder. Thank you for your time!

Okay it's it's the 18th day and I need to put the light Sussex eggs down in the hatching tray in the bottom of the cabinet incubator. but I also have eggs on a Turner in the top of the incubator on day two. now the incubator is holding steady at 48% humidity and 99 degrees. how do I work this? somebody's telling me I need to raise the humidity for hatching down in the bottom but if I do that , what will it do the eggs up in the top? it's all one big enclosure. there's no board that separates the top in the bottom.
thanks,
Karen
Normally on day 18 the humidity is raised to around 65% for hatch. Unless you have a hatcher, it is probably best not to start another hatch until the other is completed. You'll need to raise the humidity for the hatch, then bring it back down for the new hatch to continue on it's way. Pay close attention to air cell development, and adjust humidity accordingly.

In exciting news, all 7 chicks hatched in the classroom! :jumpy :weee :celebrate
Congrats, that's awesome, I'm sure the kiddos are enjoying it. And oh yeah spiders. Don't like them at all. More webs than spiders actually, You hit a web and there is a spider somewhere on the other end who is now out to get you for destroying his/her home. Snakes are higher on the list of don't likes but spiders would be a very close 2nd.
