EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Depending on how fast I could get out of my son's oxygen apt in the morning, we could maybe meet around 11-1130???? Red lobster near your work so you can get back to work quickly for your meeting?

Sounds good! :thumbsup

Y'all pass out?

No - feel like it though. Was doing a bunch of chicken chores. I got some pics to share.

Here's Khan (Puppy's son), all grown up. Snape was being a jerk today, and I warned him that I had a replacement ready to go. I think he understood. :lau

And speaking of Puppy - look who she's corrupted - I found Buffy out with her the other day:

(Buffy was a little freaked out by being outside - she hasn't tried since. But I had a nice snuggle with Puppy this evening in a chair while watching her kids - she wanted hugs and cheek rubs. :love)

I've only had an apple all day, along with a lot of water, so I'd better go scrounge up something to eat.

(Edit to add: And Puppy shared the apple with me, so... I'm hungry)

Depends on the breed. They'd never sell here. I got $40 for 10 birds that were laying, once, but that's all. If you're getting 10 each for non layers, then it isn't unreasonable, and by the way I'm moving in because that's incredible.

Edit: $12 for a Silkie?? They better have been really good quality, 'cos that's an awful lot.

Edit again: You're insane for keeping the birds in the house that long. I've booted my ducks outside by 1 1/2 weeks old. :lau
(They're with some month-olds, so they're fine. It isn't even going below freezing any more.)

I don't want to part with my birds badly enough to sell my adult layers for so cheap.

They wanted my adult red sex links, or EE layers.. and I'm not willing to part with those, I'm actually attached to them, because I hand raised them.

I did offer them 5 juvie birds that would start laying here in a little while, for 40 dollars, that I wasn't overy attached too, but they wanted good layers, which is odd, since they were originally sent here to get pets. Down here in texas, a lot of the good layers die of heat stroke.

I told them if they didn't want to spend the money on adult birds, just go buy chicks from tractor supply, but they didn't want to raise them... if you don't want to raise them yourself, then expect to pay more?

Most people here sell chickens for 10 dollars apiece for the ones who aren't laying anymore, and 25-500 depending on the chicken breed for others... if it's a fighting cock, some of those have sold for us much as a few thousand.
LOL

Sounds good! :thumbsup

Wow, he's gorgeous. :love

As you are someone in the medical field, I would have thought you, of all people, would eat better. Shame on you, and go eat!! :old

Fifty bucks for sexlinks??
I can put month-olds on CL, for free, and they won't go. The only thing that goes consistently is adult roosters. People here know the value of free lunch.

I saw an Ayam Cemani go for $25 here the other day. Wasn't perfect quality, but still.

Okay, let me ask you guys a question. I had someone stop by to look at some birds, and I got the feeling they felt that me asking 50 dollars for 3 laying hens, and a rooster of their choice was unreasonable....

All birds were healthy, I've put time, effort, and care into raising them. I offered them chicks of their choice for 2-3dollars per chick as long as they picked them up with in a week of hatch.

Was I completely unreasonable? I know I paid 12 dollars per silkie chick, and more than that for other speciality breeds, unless I wanted random birds from tractor supply.

I know that some of the older birds here, that don't really lay anymore, are 10 for people who plan on eating them.... but mine are in their prime and just started laying, or are about to start laying.

Maybe I'm unrealistic since I hand raise mine, they live in the house until 12 weeks, then go into a grower pen and they get lots of treats and as much feed as they want.... and we buy them fresh tomatoes from the store sometimes for treats! LOL

*hides.*

Oh well, I didn't want to sell them that badly. I can always eat the extra roosters later, and my silkie roosters are such good boys, I don't mind keeping the extras around LOL
i think it's fair

Thanks - I think he's gorgeous, too. His "voice" still has some growing to do - his crow sounds like the chicken version of Peter Brady when his voice was changing.

:lau

Don't worry - dinner's almost ready. Goat burgers with homemade ketchup, potato wedges covered in chicken fat and broiled, and steamed zucchini. :drool
