EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I keep hoping it'll be September soon. Then I remember it's June. Four more months...
You too? I LOVE fall. Everything dies. And the temperature drops. :love

Only you would think 30° is cold.

ETA: Or did you mean you read it in Fahrenheit?

If you clicked the f in the top line it would read in human degrees instead of dog years degrees
Dog degrees? gig.gif
But what would you have discussed for most of the day then??? smilewink.gif :bun

Update? it could be a 'bruise on the shell from the duck tapping the shell, could be a bruise from it knicking a vein, could be nothing? what kind of ducks, shipped eggs or local??

they were shipped eggs from metzer farm. we started with 4 welsh harlequins, 2 buff, 2 black swedish, 2 blue swedish, 1 white layer, 3 cayuga. 1 cayuga didnt develop, 1 black swedish shell was broken on accident and beyond repair, and the others were doing fine. we had an automatic egg turner and the incubator had a fan. we had the humidity at around 55ish and the temp at 99.5 for the whole time, and then during lockdown the humidity went up to 60-70%. we candled them before lockdown and they were all moving and doing fine. then the gray splotches started to develop on all of them and one had weird dark stripes that swirled slightly from the top to the bottom, but when candled they looked ok? they didnt hatch on day 28, we waited to day 30 and candled them again and one welsh was full of air pockets and there wasnt even a baby inside anymore, so i threw it out. no pipping, no peeping, nothing. but none of them smelled except that welsh so i put them back in and waited again. were on day 33 and still nothing is happening. im sure they are dead and im so upset. i dont understand what we did wrong. we got all the readings right with multiple thermometers and i washed my hands very well before touching them. everything was going fine right until they end. i spent $130 on the incubator and $60 on the eggs. i dont really care about the money but im so disappointed and sad about the poor babies. i know i can order ducklings already hatched but they wont imprint on me like a hatched baby would, would they? :[

You're in PA, right? Try north-er. We don't bite, promise.

Ahh I usually spend my summers in Maine. But some of them have been just as humid. And what the hell do y'all feed those mosquitos?!!! They are like flying fire ants. Last trip I left there with a rash that didn't go for 11 mos. Docs around here just gave , me the doxycycline I requested and shrugged.

I'm kind of from all over-- my family was transient until New Orleans (always be home). Then, I married military. Born in Va, lived in Minnesota, Ca, Japan, NJ, FL. Seems time to balance things out. I need some Mid-West or just West.

If I knew what we fed the bugs around here, I'd stop feeding it to them :barnie

thanks for answering all my qs

Your humidity may have been a touch high for the first portion

Did you mist/sponge them at all?
How did aircells look

Unfortunately if I saw those bruises you spoke about I would have mad a small safety hole at that point so I could check on them

:hugs very sorry
