EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I bought this one about 30 years ago, maybe more, for a bunch of quail eggs. It's had a total of 3 hatches run through it.

I, too, much prefer a broody. I keep the incubator ready in case she quits. Have one setting eggs right now.

That was my thought. My grandkids each want a chick of their own but if I don't get a broody in spring, or she quits, we can do it ourselves. Then try the shipped eggs another time.

My grandkids are more interested in popping out short bald creatures right now. One 6, one just over a yr, one 5-6 weeks, & another one cooking.

She hatched last night with help, the amber goop was starting to get hard and I was darned if I was going to loose this one to it not being able to breathe. My fiance James and I washed her down with paper towels and warm water getting most if not all of it off and this morning she was all fluffed up. Now in a brooder box.

I do fear out of her clutch she will be the only duckling to hatch. In about a weeks time I should have 5-6 bantam chickens hatch, would they be ok to put with her for companionship? Ps she is sooo tiny. And gets super happy and purs when she sees me.

I'm not sure what to say there. I'd hope it would be ok to try them together.
Someone else can chime in if there not good together.

Glad to here she's doing well!:clap

So... I lost my sweet Chrissy tonight. I made the decision to let her go after seeing how her quality of life had just plummeted.

I didn't post the details here but she was suffering.

Thanks, y'all, for offering advice and support. I got to spend 6 more precious months with my little girl.

Sorry to hear this. :-(
