Did I show you guys what I found the chickens trying to eat the other day? It an Eastern Hercules beetle.

In between setting up the shade shelter for the Enterprise crew (Kirk and his girls - the Tank x GNH crosses - plus two of Goodwins daughters), I sat down with the little black (hopefully ) olive egger. She doesn't have a name yet, but I'm sure it will reveal itself to me in due time. Meanwhile, she is SUPER DUPER friendly - she'd sit in my lap all day long if she could. Of course, Kirk wanted some attention as well, which was a little bit of a surprise. He has inherited his father's amazing disposition plus amazingly gentlemanly yet protective ways with his girls (and at such a young age! He's about 21 weeks.). LOVE him.

(It also appeals to me to have the Enterprise coop with Kirk next to the Botany Bay coop with Khan - I'm such a geek...)

The camels are mine... Sorry.
But but they AREN'T webbed camels!
It's a bit of a warm one (sun is out, few clouds). Chickens are excavating in their deep litter or finding other ways to beat the heat. Here's Lissa cooling her feet and legs a few days ago:

And this morning, Tank guarding his girls napping under a bush:

I just got back from Home Depot - needed to get cinder blocks and plywood for additional shade shelters.

Well, it's only 93F out there, so I should stop being a wuss and get out there and start hauling cinder blocks. :th

(Speaking of gadgets, it may be time to get the ice shaver machine out for the season.)

Nice pictures. I have one olive egg NN from the bunch I received from Louisiana. The Alohas or at least the ones that looked like alohas, came from a breeder in Texas they said. Too much rain that may have effected the eggs I'm afraid. Knew it when I bought them though.

My back hurts, and i'm grumpy. I'm hoping a good night sleep helps. I was nesting something fierce.... I cleaned my closet, moved 2 dressers, moved a mini fridge, cleaned 3 rooms, and put away 2 bins of laundry, plus outside chores and kid care.

I'm anxiously awaiting the ability to wake up in the morning and pee on all those glorious sticks, just to be told I'm infact, not pregnant and will need to go hug all my chickens and suck it up for next time.
patience is a grate value!
