EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

It was hot today, but the chickens have pretty much figured out their various ways to keep cool. I sprayed the shaded ground in the Botany Bay paddock, and here they are loving it. Good thing I know this is dust bathing and not a group seizure...

Just back from errands (TSC and more shade cloth at Lowes). I like my TSC, but they were out of Feather fixer (except one lone bag), and my little girls are growing up and starting to lay - so it's time to switch from chick starter to Feather Fixer. Got a rain check for an order of five more bags. I do NOT like to get low on feed. Here's a photo of those three green eggs, BTW:

While waiting at the service counter, my eye wandered over to the dog supplies. And here we have it, a sign that the apocalypse is coming soon...

It's back down to 100F now, so I may head out and see how everyone is. I ordered a full rope hammock and stand on Amazon the other day - I can't wait to set it up in the back yard. What I REALLY want is a pool, but I need remodeling done before that happens, so I need to wait a few years (and save a lot of pennies). I am SOOOO tempted to get one of those temporary ones, though. (Except I've had them before - a real pain.)

Dunlap Hatchery have pretty much stopped hatching for now. The had a few chicks of egg layers but that was it. I think they sell eggs still so I'm might go that route. Especially if they start breeding improvements into the NN.
I'll give you my pool if you find a way to dig it up and move it. Water was near 95 during this spell. A good AC is so much better than a pool.
104 the cool down has started. :wee

95° water??

95°?

Outdoor bathtub?

Insane. 85° is probably the hottest I've ever seen here.

If you do get eggs, I'll be interested to see what you get from the hatch. Or you could just wait until spring. Just don't order too early like I did...

The location I plan for my pool is in deep, near permanent shade. I would also likely splurge to cool the water, because I want it for working out (Endless Pool). I like my workout pool water cold (lounging it doesn't matter so much).

Poor Tank - I went in with a red headlamp at bedtime and picked him up (he's such a good boy). The thorn was almost an inch long and had skewered his comb all the way through. Took quite a tug to get it out, poor fella. :(

Yes and the water has been hotter. :sick

Hang in there Tank ole boy.
You would have to cool it in order to enjoy it for sure. Ours is 9 feet deep at the diving board. The top one foot is always too hot this time of year.
I wondered about the egg route if the chicks would be different in that they are selecting the ones they send on chicks.

Ooucheee! Poor guy! Bet it felt good for him to get that out.

Thanks! You must be in the he man dux haters club with Ralphy! Lol

No room for ducks here. I've seen what mess they make at my friends house. His pond is obliterated from them. Not that my pond is any better due to weeds but his is completely barren. Except for all the poo.
I'm considering some Royal Palm poults from a friend that had two broody hens.
