I'm practically shivering just thinking about it.It has been in the forties here.![]()
Well, Good morningIt has been in the forties here.
I know someone that put a helmet on a pig (dead), and strapped it onto his motorcycle. He said it caused a few (minor) accidents as surprised motorists noticed him.
I went to let the chickens out a while ago & found them all huddled together, shivering & shaking something awful; looked like a bunch of Elvis impersonators. A couple even had scarves around their necks, and I don't think it was for looks. It was down into the 50'sI'm practically shivering just thinking about it.![]()
Today was my last day of freedom. School starts next Wednesday. . but I'll have something I'll have to do everything day in preparation. And stupid meetings.
Ordered some supplies from Lowes for the duck mansion the hubby is building. Way too much money. Oh well you can't take it with you right? Was hoping it would come in this week so we could work on it this weekend. But no. It will be here Monday.
So my days of lurking are about over. Probably won't be able to keep up!![]()
I went to bring the trash out to the highway. Surprise! Surprise! All four SPR boys are sleeping on the grill.

Nope, those were all non laying teens and most were showbirds...
My wife and I were just talking about how weird it is a predator can break into my coop and run take 96 birds and not leave one body or feather and manage to get all my legbar pullets and PC pullets.....
One smart predator!
Sure, sure.... Butterin' me up like a biscuit, eh?
I am guessing a 90% chance, since my game camera were "bumped" off target and there is a shoulder and arm being seen opening the run door.
We would know better had someone not set the time in the date place and the date in the time place on the camera....It is remotely possible someones mother with memory problems opened the door in the middle of the night and allowed a predator in...BUT I am leaning towards someone I know or who bought birds from me and knew where I kept my show birds.
This occurred when I was either in the hospital or in bed recovering....
Sounds like you have chickens that are even wussier than Jace.I went to let the chickens out a while ago & found them all huddled together, shivering & shaking something awful; looked like a bunch of Elvis impersonators. A couple even had scarves around their necks, and I don't think it was for looks. It was down into the 50's
Good morning everyone!
Caught up, now to get some work done. BBL![]()
The high humidity is miserable in summer but also causes more frostbite in winter.Oh, I hope you know I was giving Banty grief because she give me TONS of grief...lol.
I know that.
It's so interesting that you mention the Norwegian Jaerhon. I just came across that breed's pic (on here likely?) and was reading about them.
I got mine from Sandhill Preservation about 11 years ago.
There is a big Jaer thread on BYC. They really are great birds.
Mine molted in January. I guess that was their way of saying this place isn't that cold.
Your temps are surprisingly similar to ours except ours would be -35 to 105. I don't think we've ever been to 110. How come I'm so much further north and I'm still getting high temps?View attachment 1105259
I once took a road trip in an MG along the great river road to Brainerd MN to the headwaters of the Mississippi. I couldn't believe how hot it was. Mid 90s every day.
Our humidity has been more normal...but the past 5 years or so we've been high humidity summer and winter, 80% to 100%. High humidty is not fun...that's hard on the birds. I feel for you there.
I never touch a broody hen. You'll eventually know how many chicks you have and you won't disturb her good work.Pics! Since there's no one here...I'll sneak these in.
Miss extreme broody, Chewbacca. She's a pain in my derriere!
And I'm letting her raise more of her! What am I doing????
Lifted her off 3 times yesterday.
First to see if something was hatching.
Second to check for chicks
Third to take these pics. I think all but 3 have hatched. I still have to go out and attend.
The rest are the bunders.

And still complaining about the poor functionality.Us old fogies will probably still be saying "PMs" and "Ovations" in five more years. Can't teach an old dog new names for the same trick.
I've had both white and black leghorns go broody often. One just never knows. The reason I got the Altsteriers is they weren't supposed to be broody. Yeah that didn't work. It's a disease I tell ya.
Well morning comes early so I'm done for today.![]()
That's simply awful.I am guessing a 90% chance, since my game camera were "bumped" off target and there is a shoulder and arm being seen opening the run door.
