My folks did it to a few roosters awhile back and said it wasn't that bad, they ate them and are still alive so I'm taking that as a good sign. I have horror memories of being a teenager and walking into the mud room of our farmhouse at the time, they'd slaughtered our two pet sheep and were letting them hang, well I wasn't expecting it and as you can imagine got the biggest shock and screamed. My grandma thought it was absolutely hilarious and just about killed herself laughing. One thing I want for my kids is not to be as useless as I am with stuff like this - surely if I bring them up learning how to do this stuff they won't be such wusses about it like me! Maybe we can swap notes!
Thanks Ron!
Swapping notes sounds good.I grew up with raising animals for food, hunting and fishing. Mom would tell us to go pick an old hen for chicken and dumplings. It was a Family project and guaranteed the chicken and dumplings were always very Tasty! My folks did it to a few roosters awhile back and said it wasn't that bad, they ate them and are still alive so I'm taking that as a good sign. The flexible pipe cutter will take care of that very quickly!Food poisoning. It's just the whatifs that keep worrying me.
Whatif I don't chill them right?
Whatif I don't let them rest long enough and I go to all that effort only to get shoe leather?
Whatif it's not a clean kill?
If it weren't a huge rooster I want to process I'd dislocate neck first then remove head...
I hope. The flexible pipe cutter will take care of that very quickly!
Even a 2-yr-old rooster? The flexible pipe cutter will take care of that very quickly!
Even a 2 year old rooster's neck is not as tough as the pipe.Even a 2-yr-old rooster?
I should have known they would end up as food considering we named them Lamb Chops and Mint Sauce. I thought it was a joke. Joke was on me!Swapping notes sounds good.
Oh my! I guess that would be rather alarming. I see cows hanging plenty, but they aren't my pets.
Just as a warning, sometimes that backfires. Someone I know was brought up helping to kill spent layers every year. She detested it and refuses to do it ever again.
Chicken and dumplings sounds amazing! And sounds like a fantastic way to be brought up. I wish we could afford land to be self sufficient, maybe one day!I grew up with raising animals for food, hunting and fishing. Mom would tell us to go pick an old hen for chicken and dumplings.
