EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Well, Daisy (RSL) is sick. Found her by the coop ladder this morning, looked half-dead and dazed. Thought she might just be dehydrated and hungry so I gave her a small bowl of fresh water. She drank a few mouthfuls and her comb went back to being red and she seemed to perk up a little. Then I scooped her up and took her into isolation once I saw she'd rallied. I gave her a cup of water with electrolyte mix in it and when she'd drank half of it she tried standing on her own but couldn't. I gave her food to see if it helped and she still wasn't able to stand on one leg. I've bathed her and noticed no bleeding or wounds or lesions, but her toes won't uncurl on the right foot. Stools are normal, behavior and body parts are all normal save for the foot.

Keeping her isolated in case but I'm thinking it's just some damage from falling out of the coop. My birds don't use the ladder, they usually jump down. Could be she sprained it, because she seems to be favoring it like a sprain or break.
It is a very good sign that she is drinking water.

Hoping for a speedy recovery!

She's actually on her second cup of water since I noticed her and brought her inside. Still acts dazed every so often but that could just be from hunger and dehydration, but she's not acting half-dead anymore.

ETA: Just checked on her. She's still wet from the warm bath but she's sorta balanced on her bad foot and has her head under her wing like she's sleeping.

I'm a mean mum. I operate the washing machine (it's brand new and my baby LOL) but the kids (3, 5 and 7) have to do their own laundry plus help me with the family laundry. I do the towels and sheets as those are hard for the kids. Each kid puts their clothes in, I do the operating of the machine, I carry it outside for the kids and then the older two help each other to hang out the clothes (7 year old stands on a stool and hangs and pegs, 5 year old hands her the clothes as she needs them), they help each other to bring in the laundry and then I sort it out - I have a little set of wire drawers next to my desk in the living area, I sort it out as to what belongs to who then they fold their clothes and put them away every day. I fold the 3 year old's clothes mostly, she does a few little bits but she has to put all her clothes away.

:oops::oops::oops:

I have been accused of child slavery (lol) but the kids have settled into the routine and it's very rare I get any complaints...although we operate on the rule, do everything without complaining or arguing, especially your chores - and if you complain doing a chore, you get another chore to do until you learn to do it without complaining.

Hubby on the other hand still can't operate the washing machine :lau he is rather impressed it sings a song to let me know when a load has finished.

You married well!! A man of my own heart...

Pah! You were spoiled. I had no school because the nearest igloo with learned people in it was about 10* south. We worked for 26 hours a day and had to get up before we went to bed. I finally learned to read and write at age 29 after walking for three months straight south to a school. I carried two children with me too.

Your lack of schooling is obvious...:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau
