EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Mice and rats are a thing of the past here... I have cats now!

I hate cats! My cats live outside in the cold. I give them enough to stick around and survive. They hunt for the rest....

I hate rats, mice and chipmunks worse than cats....So cats are here to stay.
I have a great hunter that is a barn cat, but she can't get in the runs anymore than the Predators can. She will sit right outside the runs in the evening and just watch. With the half inch hardware cloth on the skirting about the only thing I've ever had trouble with here are these blasted mice.

yes I was just discussing this with the family, last set of cats they kept in the house and they brought fleas and man you cant get rid of them like on dogs!! I really need outside cats, its getting terrible!! I have killed five rats in the past month, I think they are the young of a big mother ratter ughhhh never had I seen any sign of them before.
If you treat the cats, then sprinkle table salt around the house on the floors and furniture and stuff let it sit overnight and vacuum it up. I did that once when I moved into a place that had fleas on the advice of an older lady. Never had trouble again.

After my INDOOR only cats somehow got their paw in a hole in the wall to grab a rat, I decided I needed help. Our local shelter has "barn cats". They are feral cats that are fixed, and healthy that they give you - as long as you have a place for them to sleep and have a safe environment (and promise to feed and water them, plus trap them and take them to a vet if they are sick). I picked up 3 yesterday. I let them go in my basement. I have not seen them since. We have to keep them inside for 2 to 3 weeks to get them acclimated to our property. They have access to all the crawl spaces under the house, as well as the basement. There is no way for them to get out from under the house. But there a ton of places they can hide. I put food out, and it wasn't touched last night. So, it will be interesting if I start to find dead rats all over the place. Also, whether I will actually see these cats ever again.....

One is pure white - part Angora - they said almost 5 months old. One is a beautiful shiny grey, and the 3rd was a grey and orange tabby. They didn't know the age of the other 2. They looked pretty young.
My current feral is Dart because that's what she would do when she saw you she was really young when I first found her. I trapped her how to fix and gave her her shots and released her. It took three and a half years for me to be able to touch her even though I found her everyday last year of that time she probably would come closer and closer. Now she comes up when I put the food out and will let me pet her. She hunts well for rats and unfortunately baby rabbits in the spring which is kind of sad.

So do you like The Stairway to Heaven? Ken said his weren't very successful.
I like them for in the sheds, along with the death bait (where none of my critters are, with the feed and hay) traps are set in the coops, its required for NPIP although I dont participate right now, we still have them in coops. The little closed type traps
