Wow I had no idea people still did this!! Its fortified with Pyrethrum

Kerosene
Kerosene used to be one of the most popular yet dangerous control methods. It was first mentioned as an effective flea treatment back in 1935 in the Michigan State College of Agriculture and Applied Science bulletin: “Kerosene fortified with pyrethrum gives excellent results where it is possible to use kerosene without injury to the finish or where the odor is not objectionable.” Previously, such recipe was also used for killing bed bugs.

Modern carpet treatment recipe is as follows: dissolve 100 ml of kerosene in a bucket of water and spray this devilish mixture over carpet, leave the room and let it act. Some wet cleaning is recommended afterwards in order to remove any dead fleas from the carpet. NB! Kerosene is flammable, so use safety gloves, don’t smell it and don’t smoke when you are near it!

 Holy crow! That's insane!!!

Oh trust me. . fleas find your cat wether they go outside or not. They hitch a ride in on you or through Windows or on other pets that in outside. . then they lay eggs like crazy that fall off in your house and lay dormant for a while so just when you think they are gone NOPE here they are again. It's a constant battle.

Dislike button. Now I know why I never had a cat! :sick

I love, love, LOVE baba ghanoush!!! :drool I make a lot of it during eggplant season & eat it with tortilla chips. YUM!!! (I'm pretty fond of halvah too, but haven't had it since I was a kid.)

Got my older birds liquidated in the big house finally. Have 54 egg producers left. Took a night shot after dark last night.
The oldest hens were consuming more feed than they were producing eggs. Sold 20 of them in a package deal.
I told the remaining birds to tighten up or hit the highway... I don't think they listen very well.

You should be getting close to retirement by now, aren't you?
Yes a few more years.

@Pensmaster Join us gainfully unemployed!!! It is great fun, pain, aches, Doctor visits! I am thinking of getting a job just to put a stop to the old age aches.........
I'm looking forward to it.

I keep telling DW we should just leave the icicles up all year, so I don't have to go through the same exercise every year. She keeps calling me "trailer trash"; never have figured out why.
Too funny wife said the same. I told her to get the ones that put them up take them down.

Mornin PEter, you really did? interesting!
Yes I didn't have kerosene as an old Indian told me to use. The oil worked. Two doses she was good as new. Well when the feathers grew back that is.

We have a pretty small flock & usually know whos egg is whos. I always think its funny when an old girl stops laying. She'll go into the nest & sit on somebody elses egg. She'll casually stroll out when she sees me & I can almost hear her say in an elegant, southern drawl, "Here, I have produced this beautiful egg for you." All the while, the chicken who really laid it is running around frantically screaming her head off, "THATS MY EGG!!! I LAID THAT!!!" :lau I tell them they dont have to fake it, that they're pets & they get to stay no matter what, but I don't think its in their nature to believe me. :lau

Now this makes no sense, to Sally's rant, I just refreshed and saw a half dozen posts I had never seen, quoted by others..... So confusing to us Older Citizens.
I've seen that ever since I subscribed to this or any other of Sally's threads; pretty frustrating.

Good morning everyone! Currently the barn cats are somewhere under my house. We saw one grey blur running away last night, and it left behind a nice large dead rat in one of the cat carriers. I'm calling them basement dwellers for now. They arrived with no names, so until I actually SEE the cats, I can't name them individually. We JUST bought a camera system for the coops, we're going to set it up in the basement to see if we can catch the cats working down there.

Good morning everyone.
So I’m looking at my spare room. Which is now completely invaded by chicks! And I’m wondering how the heck do I plan on keeping over 20 babies all winter?!? -shrugs- I love em.
My seramas are hatching. Looking good.
My tolbunt polish are hatching and one is pipped on the wrong end of the egg. :/ worried about her.

I hatched Tolbunt Polish a few months ago - got 4 girls and 4 boys. Each one is SO INCREDIBLY different in coloring from each other. Is there a standard color scheme they should have? They are gorgeous!!
No, I am not such bored!
I don't eat it, to much sugars. ..... I prefer eating the tahini without the sugars. ....

I had never heard about Tahini until I tried making Hummus. It sounded so good! I love it in the Hummus, but I tried to eat it directly and it wasn't as tasty as I thought it would be.
