EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Just starting. I have several roosters to go through today. Seems like every weekend there’s a reason not to. Going to have to get it done today though. The brooder chicks are getting big enough to go out from the barn to the coop.

Good luck, I hope you're able to get them done. I need to see how many extra rooster are out there. Don't want to feed them through winter.

It sounds that you need a hug .
I forgot I posted that I was pee-ed off because my competition on Craigslist lowered their prices by $5 when I posted my ad. they undersell me and they do it all the time. I read the ads on Craigslist and tried to match the average prices. but as soon as I post my ad, A day later I look at the ads posted previously and I read and they all dropped $5. we have so much competition in our area it's crazy. And also with the pigs, when we started there wasn't as much competition but now that anyone can buy a boar cheap everybody is breeding and the market is flooded with pigs driving the prices Rock Bottom making it impossible to profit off a litter of pigs anymore.
We only break even if we are lucky. The only perk would be considered the fresh meat supply in our freezers.

Fresh meat is a nice perk though.

We have 2 broodies caring for 7 lav orp chicks. (6 wks old & currently color-coded) Here they are walking their brood to the roost.

Normally by 6wks, I'd see some tall combs. I'm actually hoping for a male, but not seeing any obvious signs. I think my best chances for males are purple, blue, & teal, but even those have small combs for their age.

They're all good-sized & fully feathered, but could the cold weather be causing them to delay maturation?

@daxigait you are missing a terrible lot on FB most good sales and quality finds will be in our groups. not many even bother with CL anymore Thats why I am on FB for my pups poultry and now goats. I removed majority of family so I dont have to listen to any drama so its me and my friends from here and pups and goats and the groups are amazing, the Goat vet site and the canine vet site have been life savers here!! only vets on those sites to help, blessings to me,
