EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Nothing will go wrong, and you will be so much happier knowing you are bringing baby chicks into a clean safe world where they are not attacked by germs in the womb,,,,,
I have washed eggs in the past. Those were the ones that didn't make it.
But I'm considering I didn't have it hot enough. I'm staying open minded. :wee

If you need to wet a particular dirty spot, a little spit and elbow grease should clean it right up. :gig

Shipped or your own?

Cold water will actually bring "gunk" (technical term) into the egg. That is what the USDA Vet told me anyways. I have had people on here argue hot water brings the gunk in..BUT I will stay with what the USDA Vet said to do..

I have not seen a difference in egg before I disinfected and after... I have noticed a huge difference in the smell inside the incubator.

Likely the problem was confounding variables— shipping, illness in flock, not fertile— Those may have been the real culprit. Personal experience and poultry study results show benefits from cleaning eggs.

My own. I don't do "shipped" eggs per say. I drive the X amount of hours and retrieve them myself. ;) I have a tested and true way of transportation.

Ahhh Ralphie. :hugs I know about the cold water shrinking and sucking in all the bad stuffs and the hot water expanding so it doesn't bring the bad stuff in. ;) I was a but too meek in my few attempts at the time that I did it. :p When I wash eggs for human consumption...if my egg shell are not up to par, my hot water will crack my egg.
The dog is happy at that moment. Woka woka.:bun
