EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Hello everyone!
Question. I have fully feathered 12 week old d’uccle and 2: 8 week old lf tolbunt polish who are almost completely feathered. It’s going to be very cold for the next few months. They cannot go into the big coop with my adults. They would hurt them or worse. What temperature range would be good for them to go out into a large ventilated dog house?

You have to be Aggressive if you want to keep your sanity. I don't have the patient to stupid people that think that I am stupid.

The prices are in the ads... They are wanting a new bulk price for everything. All calls with 305 area code are going to voicemail right now. The local calls are being answered. 13 messages from Miami since 7 this morning alone. LMAO...
We had a really nice Cuban fellow come up last week and bought a 175# gilt. Really really nice guy. Paid the price asked and was happy to see the quality and girth of the animal. He drove 10 hours to get here. 10 hours back. I hope he has a beautiful celebration! I know his family will enjoy a hog not raise on dumpster food..

It's the businesses who are haggling us. Not the people of the south florida. They are in business to profit.. They can't profit off our prices..

We gave out almost all of our freezer stock for Christmas presents again. Tenderloins, chops, ribs, bacon slabs, hams/shoulders/shanks/steaks/sausage.. GIVE THE GIFT OF FROZEN FLESH..:lau We have TONS of space for another slaughter yield.
We never ever profit from swine sales.. just break even with over stocked freezers of quality meat.

We save every ingredient tag off every feed bag and keep records of our feeders we offer. Starting at the time of conception with the Sow feed. We are almost into 4 months of feed into the piglets when they pop out.
If we don't break at least even... fire up that smoker! :weeCall up our friends & family! BBQ time!!

I have youngins set up in my barn with only a 60 watt light bulb. If they get cold they huddle by it, if not they avoid it. BUT we are only in the 40*'s here... Fl.

I wish you where a sheep grower!

Is it bad I'm already planning what I'm going to get as far as chickens go? I'm not even sure when I'll be able to do it and I'm planning what to get. Which may or may not include geese and turkeys. I blame the Mini Monster. He's got a cold and I've been trying to get him in a better mood. Grumpy, sick 4-year-old is not fun. He wanted to look at the ducks, then the turkeys, then the geese. All I can think is 'Well, my grandmother DID have Toulouse when I was his age and I DO want turkeys...'

can you make a MHP? one of the heat pad caves?

I know.
I know. I just hope Banti knew the breeds.
American Gamefowl. What variety, I don't know. I'm not familiar with the Gamefowl standards.

The birds pictured do not appear to have been fought. Their spurs are intact and they are not dubbed. However, dubbing is required for show, so they haven't been shown either unless they are cockerels.

I would still be highly suspicious. Barrel systems are quite typical of fighting operations.

They eat so much! So fast! We had a flock untill recently. We processed some, sold some. I keep 3 for pet novelty purposes. When they got older they became aggressive during feeding anything around them. Just sold the last 3 not long ago to make way for my duck adventure. Turkeys were fun. I had one I named Blue, she followed me everywhere. Broad breasted bronze.. HUGE.. Really didn't want to part with her but did.. If we do Turks again, won't be that type. The male can't mate naturally. The boys get like Dolly Parton real fast..lol..
If you get Turks.... Pix! Lots of them..:)
Absolutely! I'm thinking Royal Palms, Blue Slate, or Bourbon Reds. I haven't decided yet. I just know I want turkeys and Toulouse geese. If Cackle takes suggestions I may end up ordering their Happy Cackle box just so I can get a pair of geese without having to space out my orders. Or not since I just noticed Cackle's Toulouse are production type.

That's the plan! :D I still need to do some more reading on geese and turkeys before I get them. Plus a need a new brooder set up for waterfowl and I could really use a new brooder for chicks and poults.

There appears to be a few Sweater Grays and standard colored Kelsos. Both are incredibly popular bloodlines here in Alabama. A few of the birds in the background are dubbed, but most of them appear to just be breeders. Good coloring on most of them, but not perfect. A few of the tails are wrong for AGF. The barrel system is incredibly common in show breeders here in the south. General census is if they're hiding their stock, they're fighting their stock. If they're where anyone can see them, they're show breeders.

Interesting, thanks. Hadn't noticed the dubbed bird.

I didn't either until I enlarged it. I still know a few show breeders in my area that are incredibly proud of their birds. :) I'll probably never go back to AGF, though. They can be super aggravating to raise since the hens are more aggressive than the roosters. At least, it was that way with the Kelsos I raised.
