EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

OMG you all made me HUNGRY! The ribs look so delicious and those beans ....Yummy! Anyways I'm trying to read from the start :caf but decided to jump to the back cause I need some HELP! I was looking into an incubator cause I wanted to order some VERY SPECIAL eggs, thought I was sold on the Incuview but then thought I should start off small & experiment with some not so pricey eggs so was going to try the Janoel 12.

After reading about attempting to hatch shipped eggs, I'm so discouraged. The biggest problem is I live in HI. The eggs would come from CA & there is no such thing as Express or Over night, it's going to take "at least" 3 days whether it be USPS, UPS or FedEx. So if I calculate correctly, the eggs would be 10+ days old before they get here plus with all the jiggling :barnie Need all your ideas - Incubator and hatching shipped eggs ? Thank you all in advance.

Do you know the folks you’ll be getting eggs from? Find out all you can from them as they’ll usually know the best hatching means for their breed. Distance may not be as much a factor as finding someone to ship to HI. The best hatch from shipped eggs I’ve had was also the furthest.

Thank you Pensmaster ... Yea, shipping here is an "issue" with Dept of AG.
Couple years ago I thought I had it all worked out, hand carry fertile eggs from VA from a breeder at the end of my Grandma visit with Grandkids. Worked things out with the airlines & TSA (was getting an escort through security) but I forgot about our Dept of AG. Had made my reservations flying directly from Los Angles to Hilo. I would have had to pay a $250K fine and a year in jail :( The eggs could be mailed to me but hand carry, I needed to stop in Honolulu International during the time that Dept of AG was in operation. It would have cost me another $200 to change so I had to cancel my "brainstorm". It's not the "paradise" tourist make it out to be ....

Ship chicks?

Good morning! Where are you all???
Here is a smile maker or two. I love kids, and can't wait for more of this year's kids. The first is the guy born last Thursday, and the rest are brought back for smiles.

Good morning Mike!

Good morning everybody! It's hard to believe I really haven't been on since the beginning of December, other than the few birthdays. Wowsers.

I skimmed to catch up. Hopefully, I didn't miss much. A lot of crazy weather everywhere it looks like. And lots of snow. We have almost no snow here. And it's been above freezing here for the last few days. I think this week is only supposed to be down to -7C in the day. It's been beautiful after that terrible cold at Christmas.

Things have been interesting.:gig

Hubby presented with a large blood clot (over an inch) in his superior mesenteric artery (abdominal area) in the beginning of December. He was VERY fortunate, we got him to the ER and caught it before it did any major damage. He's still alive...lol. He was in the hospital for that week. He's on blood thinners and we've been to appointments and seen more doctors than we care to see...lol. We're still awaiting a further test on whether he is showing a false positive or a blockage in his heart. I'm trying to keep him from doing things where he can end up bleeding to death. :smackI've learned more about clotting factors etc. And who knew Merck's had a people version; both professional and non-professional!

So most of December seemed to be eaten up with all that excitement. I cut the tip off my finger making the Christmas meal. So that put a damper on much of the stuff I needed to get done after Christmas. It still has pain, but it's healed up for the most part. I don't think my fingerprints are there like they were! I got way behind on some on some parts of BYC.

We've also shipped our calves and vaccinated both the cows and the replacement heifers. We're trying to get our farming inputs booked for this coming year before the prices go up. And the lack of snow cover may have killed the fall crop we planted.

Dh's mother presented with a possible DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and we took her to emergency and for tests. This week she tripped and broke her hip. Thankfully she required only partial replacement. She's been transferred back to the local hospital. We may have to head to the city to obtain appropriate items to help with her mobility.

But hopefully, I can keep up with the few threads I follow.
I've missed chatting with everyone. :frow
Hopefully, things can stay calm for a while.:fl :th

Hi Wicked! Sorry to hear about all the health issues. I certainly hope and pray for speeding recoveries. I sliced a small portion of my thumb off once, extra careful now. lol

I was wondering if it is even legal to ship eggs to Hawaii.
