EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

It's nice to have spares. I have a one rooster that is completely unrelated to my birds who is in sick bay. I've treated him for bumblefoot several times. Had him to the vet twice. The last time it cost me $300 with X-rays. Bumblefoot is gone but the vet thinks it is cancer. I wasn't willing to have more tests done. He gave me an antibiotic in case it is bacterial and a anti-inflammatory for pain.
He's more mobile now but still has a week of meds left. I hope to get him back in the breeding business for a bit to get some more offspring. I do have some of his kids but since my wife hid my pedigree notebook, I don't know which ones. I really need to find that book.
CC took a bird to the vet? I never thought I'd see the day.
I currently have a duck in for bumblefoot treatment. She's on antibiotics too. Amoxicillin.

Goodness, what'd you do to merit something like that? Did you pee on her rosebush by accident?

You still have plenty from Pen's line don't you? I hope you find that book soon.

That is how Pen acts. Robbie may get vocal at times, but he doesn't act freaked out.
That's the nature of Penedesencas. They are fine and even friendly once mature if they are free ranging, but in a pen or coop, they go ballistic. As long as they know they have an escape route, they are calm. Get them between you and a wall or fence and they go nuts.

I never thought I would see the day either. But it is next to impossible to find any of these birds, let alone an unrelated one. That's why I hatch a lot and try to have several roosters of each line. That way, if I lose one it isn't a huge loss.
I do send birds with unexplained deaths to the vet school for necropsies and complete lab work.
I've had 4 chicken related vet visits in my life. One was just to have a fecal read. All were for Penedesencas. I have to weigh the value of the bird to determine if I want to spend any money for a vet.

That makes sense to me. Hopefully he pulls through and you find that record book.

She hides everything I own.
I spend half my days, looking for where she put something.
I figure the notebook will show up eventually. I just kept a new record of leg band numbers till it shows up.

I remember you telling me that about them. So I have never worried about it.

Autocorrect attack your phone again? :gig

He makes beautiful Olive Eggers. I just wish all the hens weren't black.

Yes. I just got rid of my last olive eggers fathered by Penedesencas.
