Malted grain will be full of sugar. Pigs should love that.

The young ones are tearing it up..

I started incorporating the whole grain into the egg maker pellets. Stretching the pellets + they are still getting their calcium.

100# pellets to estimated 20# barley grain.

Super feed. Super cheap..

Thanks they are Altsteirers, jury is still out on them. Very pretty and very alert which is why I started with them. However, very flighty.

One of the hens of that bunch got out while feeding this morning. In trying to get her back she flew over a 7 foot fence from a stand still position. Didn’t bother to try after that. Live trap is set just in case.

I had a blue Jersey Giant that would fly over a 6 foot fence to get to the goodies in the garden.
What I love about Penedesencas is that they prefer to run than fly. Though they can fly to the top of a building if pressed, without danger they're content to stay inside a 3 foot fence. I've kept a flock of roosters inside a 2 foot fence.
They may sneak under a fence but rarely go over one.
