EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Thanks guys. She was very thin, so I don’t feel like there was much I could do. Everyone else is thriving!

The second wave is still hatching in the incubator, eggs from a friend that were added two days later. I need to find some small zip ties to mark them with. Is there a better way to mark chicks? I couldn’t think of anything else that wouldn’t be picked at or inhibit them.

*Edited to add. There are 11 chicks here.

She didn’t make it. I’m not sure if she overheated in the cup, I tried to position it well. She was very small and weak, so it perhaps was unavoidable.
:hugs
You did the best you could with her!

Shipped eggs and temps too low usually and sometimes too high will cause chicks to hatch like that. Get a good thermometer like the brinsea spot check and make sure your incubator is set correctly for temps.

March 10 is set day for the Easter hatch a long...Plenty of time to setup a new hatch!

We are dry. :yesss:
Of course that means drought but for now it’s not a slip and slide.
Water restrictions are going back in place too...Not that I ever stopped with water conservation LOL!

Food coloring or marker.

Most have Black legs and bodies, lol. I will see what I can do. I think I have some velcro strips here too. That may work temporarily.

That makes sense. I realized about halfway through the incubation, that the temp was still lowered from the last lockdown. MY incubator is the GQF Genesis, so it is a good one, but it can't fix user errors. :p
