EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

climate change

My hive is dead. About 10,000+ dead bees on the screened bottom board. I had a candy board and a pollen patty on top but it was probably too cold for the cluster to move close enough to use it and it looks like they starved. Lots of bees with their heads stuck in cells.
I bought that hive as a nuc last June and it was full of small hive beetles that I was trapping but I guess the hive didn't recover in time to build stores in the bottom box.
So sorry!
There is a series on Netflix called rotten. One of the episodes is about bees and honey.
I saw that information. It looks like something worth watching.

How awful, sorry that happened.

Help again please! I just assisted a chick, it was halfway zipped when I left this morning at 9. I came home about 7 and it was still trying and shrieking, but the humidity had fallen.

It is out now and shrieking still, but it is not getting up too much and I just opened the incubator quickly to feel it. It’s fluff has completely dried on its skin, and feels a little crunchy. Should I just to give it a warm bath ? I don’t want to stress it out more than I have too, but I want it to be able to walk around. Such a fighter!

*edited to add, I assisted close to an hour ago.

Hi all. :frow

My gimpy chicks all have hobbled and tape shoes. They look a mess. 3-5 drops of poly-vi-sol each evening. I was finally able to move them into a box of their own, so hopefully they’ll continue to get stronger. :fl Most can bear weight on at least one leg.

They look ready for the chicken nugget factory :p

I don't suppose you have any SH pictures?? I need my jet black birdy fix. I miss my pair, they were so docile and beautiful in their shape and simplicity.

Give the chick a drop of baby vitamins without iron twice a day for a couple of days.
The stuff on the feathers will dry off. I only remove it if there is egg shell stuck on the chick.

Pics are from before Xmas when I almost sold them. :hide the buyer backed out because I refused to drop the price an extra $15 because the cock is blind in one eye, fighting related and in no way genetic. They didn’t care that his body type is perfect and gorgeous.
