Nah, they need that top layer of good stiff feathering to keep the warmth in. I'd get out of bantams, sell some of my LF, and then breed for cold hardiness alone. I have a few birds that could probably take a perpetual winter.

I'd treat them as if they were damaged.

Less than an hour ago a 3-yr-old sat in the kitchen getting a nebulizer treatment. Ten minutes ago the entire light fixture came crashing down. :th
I am a bit overwhelmed cleaning it up. Not sure why. I guess I’m just tired of this old house with all of its problems.
 
12 chickens to camp fridge. More tomorrow. Nice thing about winter butcher. No flies. Or meat wasp.
I have decided I'm never going to even try and butcher birds in summer. Fall only if at all possible. It's lovely having no bugs to worry about.
