EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Just when you think you've seen it all. UGH

:sick so I have a chick that I found in the coop yesterday. The moms hatched it but then just left it laying there. I think they helped the chick out of the egg too soon because I saw moms pecking at it earlier after it had pipped. I just let them be figuring they know what they are doing. I took the chick after finding it wet and alone and quickly realized it had splayed legs and curled toes. I brought it inside and made something to help its legs.

He was doing fine and I gave him some water with nutridrench in it. WELL then this morning I look at him and :sick it seems all this neon yellow stuff was in the cup and a red liver shaped ORGAN.

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT/GOING ON/WHY WOULD A FULLY ALIVE AND FINE CHICK SUDDENLY PASS AN ORGAN (is it an organ, what could it be)/ What is the yellow stuff?!?

I have a VERY strong stomach and this actually made me gag hard.

Any advice is appreciated xox

Sometimes the things we see aren’t meant to be. The hens probably weren’t trying to help. Left to nature this chick wouldn’t have made it. It’s better that way. I have no idea what the bloody organ was.

I am not sure what the actual temperature here is but ithe feels Hot..... I just added a few more tarps to my coop compound for shade hoping that makes my girls more comfortable. ...View attachment 1450564 View attachment 1450565 View attachment 1450566OK so the pics do not accurately show my progress but you can kind of see the extra shade they provide at noon
It sure looks hot. How does the natural vegetation stay so green. Do you get summer rains? Everything here except under trees has turned brown.

That’s

Nice. The apricots are about ripe. I’ll probably pick today as the squirrels and birds will eat them soon. After yesterday’s heat they probably ripened up enough.
Please tell me what insect repellent you use on your trees. Now that I actually have fruit, I will need to do more than sprinkle the leaves with Sevin once in a while.

I actually don’t have a product that I use. Last year one apricot tree got aphids bad. I used neem oil it seemed to help. No aphids this year so far. Last year had much more rain than this year so that is probably the reason.
