I don’t think that I remembered to give you guys an update on the two broody ducks.
Aretha Franklin finally got up on day 36. She still seemed upset about me being near her nest though. I replaced the two remaining bad eggs with three fresh eggs.
We have had so many storms, it isn’t a surprise that Janice Joplin’s eggs were bad too. It began storming on day 27, and she said, “More rain?! I don’t think so! I’m off this nest!!” She’s been free ranging with her parents and the chickens since.

I had been wondering how they were doing. 108 here for the last 3 days straight and smoky.
 
Duckling runs around barefoot. It’s no surprise that she steps in poop of some kind every few minutes.
Tonight she’s in my bed. The one night she’s not wearing footed pajamas, she’s laying sideways. Her foot is alternating between kicking me, and just laying there next to my face. Her feet stink, and I think I need another shower. :sick

Exactly my Idea of peaceful night sleep ....
 
It’s been a quite a bit of time since I’ve been on this post. Busy summer of hatching, being pooped on, raising, being pooped on some more, coop cleaning, eyes getting pecked (O.X, is my new nickname) and you guessed being pooped on. Oh and slipping in the mud to land on my hands in a pile of duck poo. Love every minute of it. And after hatching about 400 chicks I’ve almost narrowed down the 15 I’ll be keeping. Blue copper maran, blue Ameraucana, 2 white sultans, 3-4 polish, 3-4 Cochins, True whiting green? Idk why that breed instead of the beautiful Oliver Eggers I’ve raised, silkies, bearded d’uccle and a serama or 3. A note on hatching, not sure if it’s just a pullet year or not but I’ve only had about 25 cockerels! All who have gone to loving homes.

The little one is nestled in my bed, turned the other way now. She stole the covers early in the night. I kept thinking I’d get them back... as I clung to the edge of the bed, freezing.
It’s nice having her in the bed on occasion. It just didn’t turn out so well last night. :lol:
