Such a shame you have such scrupulous morals

I've been busy being lazy. Chicks are doing great. One is very obviously a roo and it just so happens to be the same one that's breed is a complete mystery. I suspect my 'looks like the comets I had' is a Red Star roo. I'll just have to order that box from Cackle I've been wanting since it looks like I won't have much of a flock at this point.

I'm getting ready to head outside and get pics of the older kits so I can go ahead and get them up for sale. I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but Bella (the hermaphrodite) had kits. I'm glad I didn't eat her.

:frow hello Ralphie!
Any new picture of the Toads?
Hey there Benny!

I am down to 3 toad hens and 1 rooster. I am not getting any eggs.

I am afraid I am no Mendel. I assume I had too small of an initial pool of genes to start with. I got a few generations of amazing birds, however, the inbreeding and lack of genetic diversity has finally caught up with them. While they are large and long lived, they are not producing enough fertile eggs to keep them going.

My whole plan was to try and develop a self sustaining extremely large bird. I did succeed in that and increasing the ratio of dark meat to white meat.

At my age it is foolish to start over again. The bright side is a 4H kid ( I am guessing 12ish) that has several Toads and loves them. He has more than I do at this point.

He has the time necessary to develop them. He has a farm background and his parents are sharp as tacks both having grown up around livestock too. I have faith he will be able to do what I can't. I am hoping to get some stock back from him in (when he feels he has enough to send them out).

One thing I did was send the toads to others to work with as soon as I could, that has paid off in this case....

It is very good that you have spread them to other people, I really hope that they will continue to develop them.
One thing that I can recommend you , is to back breed one of the feamals to one of the original breeds you have used redeveloping the Toads, especially to one of the large breed, and re introduce the offspring to the Toads.
