EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

100% agree.
In fact just candle at day 10 to toss the duds, and again at day 17 prior to lockdown and then walk away...
Best hatches happened on weekdays when there was no chance of fiddling

Learnt the hard way
Yep. Keep it simple. And I have dropped perfectly good eggs before checking on them. Not too bad when they are mine but shipped eggs :he

Still nothing. I got home from my errands certain I would have missed my first pip. :barnie So, I snuck one out and carefully candled it, being sure to keep the egg steady and not tipping or rolling it. It's pipped internally and moving. Guess I just have to continue to be patient. *sigh* How much time does it take between internal and external pips, anyway?

A long long long time.

Oh no! I have a pip on the wrong end! How did that happen?! They weren't shipped. Could it be because I was only able to turn them 3 times a day instead of 5? I hope you're all planning on staying up with me tonight, bahahahaha! Because I might need to be talked through assisting!

Wrong ends often turn around, or just pop out the wrong side anyway. Go to sleep, and wake to a bunch of babies.

Most nights I’d stay up with you. I just can’t tonight. :hugs If Duckling can do it at one, you can do it too.

I didn’t touch, she did it all.

I have another pip in the wrong spot! What did I do wrong, guys?

I was so excited about this hatch because they were fresh, local eggs. I thought this could be my 100% hatch. But now I have at least two malpositions. :hit

The second one is in the middle of the egg, on the opposite side of the dip. The egg is rolled away from the others, because the chick that hatched knocked it around. Could the knocking and rolling have caused the chick to get misaligned?

And why are they taking so long to hatch? My last hatch, when I didn't know what the heck I was doing, they were all out (the ones that hatched) in 24 hours from when the first pip appeared. It's been 24 hours from my first pip, and only one is out! I have 4 pips, but 2 are malpositions.

I never turned more than three X's a day. I found that, more often than not, the malpositioned ones were big babies. Or, the egg was real narrow. Keep watching..and listening .. if you are still seeing movement, in the pipped area..like some lining moving.. and hearing chirps from them, give them the rest of the day. Let us know!
