EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

At two-weeks, the five chicks are already screaming for a bigger brooder. They are on the second one now. I think it’s a fifty gallon.
I don't always have a small number of chicks but I quit using totes for brooding a long time ago because they outgrow them so fast. If I must brood them indoors, I use large corrugated moving boxes. (The ones from Lowes are the best size and shape)
They are cheap at about $1.35 and as chicks grow, you can add boxes cutting holes between them. Eventually, if I still can't put them outside, I might get to one for the heat plate, one for the food and one for the water.

Turn it on its side tape the "top" and "bottom " and cut a new top then they are the same dimensions
Thanks. I've been doing that, it is just an extra step.

Another problem I've discovered with that is the bedding and feces is resting on a side of the box which isn't as sturdy as the bottom for carrying out of the house.

I’m searching for the right place for boxes as I am getting other things done. I too usually use cardboard boxes, and cut holes.

Watermelon boxes
Just have to put a tarp under them
