We’ve all been there... even with our chicks and eggs.

I thought I hated the USPS until I lived in Mexico for several months and was supposed to be receiving mail for my husband's immigration case.
Even today my husband will not put anything through the mail unless I remind him that it is basically dependable here. His default is to deliver everything personally, even if it is 4+ hours away, because no one mails things in Mexico unless they never want it seen again.

My worst experience with FedEx was when they ran over my dog and didn't tell me. And my worst experience with UPS was when I returned a $200 package to Amazon and they lost it. Of course, my worst experience with USPS has been with hatching eggs!

I have 28 eggs pipping as we speak.
Another 17 due in a week and they are all developing.
Then I set 49 eggs today. I better repair some buildings or start selling chicks.

Ughhhh, I messed up somehow with this batch of eggs. Eight of 18 were malpositions! It's a good thing I've memorized the assisted hatch article from this group.

Silly quail. I unplugged the lamp earlier because they really didn’t seem to need it during the day. Soon after, they were huddled, so I plugged it back in. Tonight they suddenly went crazy. I finally walked over, and they ran to one corner, trying to climb the wall. I raised the lamp even more, but that didn’t work (I didn’t think it would, but logic isn’t logical). I finally went back over, and just sat there, playing FreeCell. They laid down, and went to sleep.

My mammoth pumpkins, and one white pumpkin are sprouted. I hope the rest come up!

They like it hot.
Minimum soil temperature for pumpkin germination is 60F, maximum is 105 but 85-95 is optimal. At optimal temperature, they sprout in 4-10 days.
Good luck. I was going to try giant pumpkins a couple of years but I was spread too thin with other activities to give them my undivided attention.

Duckling planted Romas, and they didn’t come up even a week after mine. I messed in her dirt, and added some of my Romas. As I suspected, hers began sprouting because they were close to the top. Now her mammoth pumpkins aren’t up. I watched her plant them, so I first changed windows, and just put them by mine. In fact, I put them in the glow of the heat lamp.

That should help. I’m not rushing it, I don’t want .5 and 10 pound baby pumpkins in my house.

I hated dissecting animals in school. Duckling is going to not only enjoy it, but she’s going to be a pro. I am jealous that she has me.

We first dissected a worm and then a frog. That was freshman year of high school.
I don't know why it bothered me. I had already done all the castrations on our farm beginning when I was about 10. I had also cleaned rabbits, squirrels and butchered pigs and deer.
