EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Yesterday was a crazy day in general, but shopping was quite an experience. Raz, I sincerely hope you’re not bringing Bug into public unnecessarily. If you do, ignore this post.
Different places have different rules for children. Some variate the age a child must wear a mask from two to nine. Some places forbid children all together. My WM doesn’t let pick up orders contain toilet paper. So, into WM I ventured (freaking out for various reasons). Before I went, my BIL asked if I was taking Duckling. :th I am of the “all children left behind!” group. There wasn’t a child to be seen in the store.
They had the gallon Easter buckets on sale for nine cents. I couldn’t come up with a good use for them though. Now I think I could have used them for a sidewalk chalk container, and planter.
I went for my TSC pick up, and my BIL stood inches away from the guy loading, not wearing the state required mask. I admonished him (again! I kept telling him to stay in the car!), and he went off about no one should have to wear a mask. If you knew my BIL, you’d know why my mask was on in the vehicle. :sick
Upon getting home, I was informed Duckling was staying (messing up my birthday steak and margaritas, but you know I was okay with that), and then I picked up bag after bag of one item. Half gallon of detergent, not in a bag. Three gallons of milk each bagged. A thermometer in its own bag. A bag of chocolate chips in it’s own bag... I could have gotten away with twelve fewer bags.
And that is the summary of my first trip out since February. It relates to BYC/hatching because I bought two more thermometers for the incubator.
He stays home unless it can't be helped. On the off chance I absolutely have to take him with me, he's wearing a mask and I'm making sure there's hand sanitizer in the car. I have to make some masks today, so he'll finally have his own and won't have to wear mine.

I have chicken pattern fabric so that's gonna me fun.

I used a N95 mask, but will be looking up the safest masks to make. I’ve seen mention of using a vacuum bag or the filter (which one IDK, ‘cause mine has two) of a bagless.

The wind ripped the cover of the run loose, and a pullet got out. Duckling fixed that by opening the coop for two more to get out, and then shutting the door, and spending forever chattering before telling me I had escapees. A fox (is suspected) has wiped out too much of the flock to risk free ranging, so I hurried down. The two hens were trying to get in the coop, but were too freaked out to make the whole thing very easy.

I went to get groceries for the first time yesterday since the beginning of this mess. I always buy in bulk because we have a big family and live about an hour from Costco and WinCo. So one grocery trip can last a few weeks, and even longer if we dip in to our emergency stores (which I've learned it's a very good thing to have!) I was the only person wearing a mask. And there were as many people out as any other day, many of them with kids. :( I made my kids masks, but I left the kids home.

I also stuff as much per bag as I can, lol. And who bags milk?!

Most grocers around here only allow one person per family in a store at once. Some go without masks but it is getting quite prevalent. I've been chastised for not keeping 6' distance. That's OK with me because it isn't that hard to make a big deal about it.
One guy walking out of the gas station a couple weeks ago complained about the 6' tape lines on the floor. He ranted at me because I was another old white guy who he probably thought would agree with him. He claimed he grew up in the city around rats so he miraculously was immune to so many diseases.
I told him this pandemic had the potential to be as bad as the plague of Justinian of 540 AD. He told me I was crazy and then I told him he was crazy.
Maybe everyone is crazy.
