Sometime called goat pox it can travel on shoes, goat to goat or I have heard through the air. I have not had any outside goats or access so I'm not sure where it came from, but it has to run its course. you can do some things to kind of mitigate and slow it down but it has to run its course. from that point on your goats kind of like humans that have had chickenpox are basically immune though younger animals and other on the property can get it later since it gets in the ground it never fully goes away but generally if it comes back at all it's usually years later and it is less severe. unfortunately, it's kind of a fact of life in the goat world especially if you're going to show it all. I have gone years without it, but it's here now. I'm just not sure where I got it unless the people that came to get the little buckling and walked in my yard and then I walked there had it on their shoes. I usually make people that show up at my place use my viracide spray on their shoes. I have vicron but I haven't recently had them use it. maybe I'm paying the price. or maybe it came airborne I don't know on a leaf from somewhere else. Whatever,
at least if I had to get it while I'm upset about the show I'm getting it in the fall and not when I have baby kids cuz it can get on teats and then you got a real mess. Babies that don't want nurse, moms that don't want them to nurse, and then they get chances at secondary infections or mastitis what a mess. or in a case like mine they wouldn't want to drink from the bucket and Mommy's wouldn't want to be milked so I am going to be glad in at least one small way that it happened in the fall.
oh wow, I hadnt googled it yet. No vaccines available? I havent really seen many post about it either. I am sorry, you have been so excited too :(

Dax the virus came with you or the pepole that came.
A very simple solution to that is:
1. To make everyone that come to you to step in a little pool of bleach, that is more than enguh to sanitize their shoe soles.
2. To sanitize their hands with alchogel.
3. To keep them as short as possible near the animals.

and maybe even worse cuz I may not actually have had it since it usually comes out in a few days I just had some light spots on some bucks and noses and so for an overabundance concussion the vet would not give me at my health certificate.
there is technically a live vaccine you can use, but if you heard has not had it it's best not to introduce it because it gets in the soil and is on your place once you've had it period though some people do it anyway. the vaccine is often used if someone has been exposed to go ahead and give it to the rest of the herd because they're going to get it anyway and the vaccine tends to generate a less severe case.
so far I don't have any real sores so I don't think I actually have it I'm going to try to get a test and check I needed to call the University and see if I need to do blood or some sort of skin test.
this is what mine look like and this is 5 days after her check so they should be beyond this if it's normal sore mouth.they should have big blistery sores and nasty scabs and they don't. I'm also saying nothing in the girls I know they're in a different pen I go back and forth.

his ears aren't really this short, I just have his head funny trying to get that nose.
