When I bought my chicks I asked for 3 EE's. the lady told me these were Americana's She said they are the same.? Then I started hearing about Araucanas. I dont know the difference. I'm only 7 weeks into having chickens. I have 12 but am curious about my EE and want to find out what they are.

I get confused, but most of what people have are Easter eggerS. Actual auracanas don't have tails or one of them doesn't have a tail..what do I know? I'm not the person to answer this questuon

I'm leaning towards hens for both just judging by the size of the comb. Are you sure they are both the same breed? The first one looks like she sould possibly be a RIR or red sex link based on color. Very pretty birds though!

They all appear to be EEs. In truth Americanas and EEs are one and the same, a chicken that carries a colored egg gene but does not conform to a breed standard like an Amerucana. EEs are wonderful and interesting as they vary in color greatly. Many have some of the characteristics of Amerucanas, like puffy cheeks , rose combs and blue eggs- but they are not the same.
The term Americana started being used by people who purposely wanted to confuse buyers into thinking they were getting Amerucanas. Now people just use it as another word for EEs (mostly).
I have both and just got another EE chick just because I like variety. I'm not interested in breeding, so standards (other than health) are not a big concern to me. Mine all have names and are egg supplying pets.
As to gender, it's tough to tell with those rose combs as they don't show as easy as straight combs. Also mine (when they were chicks) did not show color for quite awhile. Out of 5 I ended up with 3 roos.
