EE Breeding question.....

I know EEs are not a purebred, but if you have a pullet you bred with parents that are both EEs, will that bird still have a chance of laying coloured (green\blue\pink) eggs? Or will you get throwbacks? Thanks.

Basically, yes.

what folks call pink is actually brown genetically, so I'm not going to address that. But if your hen lays blue or green eggs, and your rooster either hatched from a blue or green egg or has strong EE characteristics with a good pea comb, your chances are very good to get blue or green laying pullets.

Most hatchery sourced Easter Eggers either have one blue egg gene and one white egg gene, or one blue egg gene and one brown egg gene. The odds are good for chicks to lay blue eggs, but there is also the potential for green, white, or brown. It all depends on what genes the parents are carrying. With Easter Egger crosses, pea combs usually indicate a blue egg gene; but it's not a guarantee. You never really know what will happen until you try it.
