Well, I have what I think is turning into a broody RIR and I just went out to check on her. In the coop checking out the nest was one of my 18-19 week old EEs. She is the one who has been coloring up the last couple weeks and she also squatted the other day so I think we're on egg-watch now.

our 22-23 wk old buff orpington just layed her very first egg this morning. Her signs- a sound she was making that to me sounded like a goose. she kept going up into her coop. when i went out there she was getting into her nesting box and and puting the wood chips around herself.

good luck on your first egg, its sooo exciting!!

Well, she laid. And I have to say they're a nice shade of blue. I had half convinced myself that I'd get lighter or browner eggs than I was hoping for but I'm quite happy with the color.

This makes 4 of my 5 now laying. I actually gave a couple away to the neighbor who watched them for us when we were out of town.

Wow! That's a nice one! My 26 week old EE has been squatting for several days now, so I am really hopeful. Maybe tomorrow so I can be home to find it!
