It’s been awhile since I’ve needed help with this but I always get great insight when I ask so here’s what we’re looking at….
I have an EE/SF cross rooster. So all of my chicks have a little EE in their genetics. Recently my broody Marans hen (none of the eggs were hers) hatched 5 chicks. 2 from EE eggs, 1 from a cream legbar egg, and 2 from Plymouth Rock eggs. They are about 8 weeks old and easy to tell which breeds are which at this point. I believe they are all pullets except for 1 of the EEs. He/She had those tell take reddish brown feathers come in on the wings pretty early on and it has always been larger than the others. I know red feathers doesn’t always mean cockerel because pattern plays a big part. Comb isn’t super red yet but I know it’s still early. No noticeable hackle or saddle feathers yet. What I am most concerned about is the ends of the tail feathers look curlier at the ends than all of the babies which have more blunt tail feathers. Thoughts?

Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
