EE? Gender?

Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster. I have 6.5 week old chicks ordered from Hoovers through TSC. They were all supposed to be female and I ordered the colored egg layer assortment that included varieties of EE and Marans. I *think* got all EEs... There are a few whose combs are already pinkening, but one in particular is giving me extra pause. This is Janis. She(?) is larger than her sisters, very social (she's my favorite), has red coming through on her wings and shoulders, and three rows of comb. I was holding out hope because she feathered out really fast and her tail feathers have been LONGER than the other girls from the get-go. But everything else about her is screaming roo to me. Any help? I'll post the others when I get better photos.

That’s good! At 6.5 weeks, her comb would be much larger and redder if she were a male. She’s beautiful!

Ah, I'm so glad to hear that. I've been holding out on posting for the last three weeks because I figured it would be too soon. The others I was questioning have combs relatively the same size or smaller (albeit maybe a little more pink) so there's hope for them too! My nine year old will be so pleased. Good news is so welcome these days.

Sigh. A chicken facebook group is telling me cockerel. Perhaps Janis will keep me guessing after all.

I’ll have to be be the odd one out and say that is a cockerel. That three row comb has too much color and it looks like the “rooster colors” are starting to come out in the feathers also. It’s a gorgeous bird either way.

That was my fear too. We live out in the country and I’m not opposed to having a roo if he behaves himself. In the meantime, Janis is getting extra cuddles, just in case, before he/she hits puberty. (Does that ever help with softening up a roo’s personality?) In any case, I’ll post an update in a couple weeks. Thanks!
