So my EE hen laid her last egg and molted about 19/20 weeks ago. I knew she wouldn't lay for a while but 4/5 MONTHS? There has been a light in the coop for the last couple of weeks and that seems to have got the bantam hens and my cuckoo maran back on track. How long does it normally take for the light to work? She looks very healthy since her molt, has a good weight and no parasites that I can see.

I miss my only green egg

She laid all last winter with the light on. About 5 eggs per week.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am hoping that by posting she will start laying tomorrow - isn't that how Murphy's law should work?

We have 5 EE's and I'm only getting one green egg MOST days, not even every day! My girls were all hatched April 1. I guess I am spoiled because our RIR's each gave us an egg almost every day all winter last year. I will probably try to figure out if it is one EE who is laying most days or if the girls are rotating the daily duty. Then I will re-home all but one this winter or spring. I will keep one for the occasional unique green egg. And until last week the eggs were medium sized, now they are at least jumbo, considering it is only one per day...some days.

Yea, mine have slowed way down too. But only one hen out of twenty gives me a huge egg. All the others (the one's still laying anyway) are giving me smaller eggs than usual.

I'm not giving mine any extra light will let them do their normal thing. I'm getting around 8 to 10 eggs day plus over the next couple weeks should see some pullet farts.

Happy Thanksgiving to all

I too am going through he same thing. 4 Hens have finished their molt 5 weeks ago, I have light in their coop. Haven't see 1 egg from them.

My 2 brooders have finished with their chicks, they are 9 weeks old...... NO eggs.

The only 1 egg I am getting is from my 19 week old hen that just started 2 weeks ago.

I just wish the others would get the job done.
I felt like taking my turkey today by the legs before I put it in the oven, taking it out to my coop and shakeing it at my hens and saying...This is what happens when I don't get eggs.

This particular EE laid all last winter with a light - but is on strike this year so far. She quit laying in like the end of July or beginning of August. I will have to look to see when the chick I have from her last egg hatched and then go back three weeks.

My EE isn't laying either. In fact, she has never laid an egg for me. She was broody over the summer and then started molting. I got her a couple of months ago from my neighbor, while she was in the midst of molting. I'm hoping she'll start laying again in the Spring. My Buff Orp and Australorp are still laying almost daily. No artificial light in the coop. I would love a blue egg, too!

She has never even been broody - I hatched her chick in an incubator and then gave her to one of my frizzle cochins to raise. They are AWESOME mamas and will raise anything.
