EE or Ameracauna? I need help - don't know what I have apparently!

Splash is a bird who has two copies of the blue gene, making it wash out to a pearly white color(sometimes with the barest hint of lt blue) with blue/black accent feathers. My hen above has very few of those. Black with one copy of the blue gene makes a blue bird. Two copies and you get splash. There's no way around that fact so I'm not sure where you saw a bird colored like the ones posted by the OP that were called splash.

Thankyou! I ordered Wheaton Large Fowl chicks througha reputable breeder. When I questioned him about the 3 colors of my birds' development instead of the expected 2 colors (roos & hens) this is what he wrote me:

The lightest brown chicks will be the blue wheaten females, if they are a little darker they will be the wheaten females. The very dark ones will be wheaten males, with the darker ones with blue feathers will be blue wheaten males. Then if you have some that look more grey with just some dark lacing these are the splash males. All these colors come out of the wheatens, as the blue gene is recessive and shows up even in wheaten/wheaten cross.
They look nice.

THIS is why I am confused

Okay, you're talking about splash wheaten, then, not plain splash. Genetically, a splash is a black bird with two copies of the blue gene, but visually, they appear white or lavendery-white. The wheatens are a whole other color category.

speckled hen I would like to confirm one thing I read on another thread about Ameraucanas. Someone stated that even if the breeding was pure Ameraucana, if the bird was not one of the "accepted" colors, then the bird is actually an EE. Is this true? Just trying to learn about the breed.

Sorry OP for doing a litttle hijacking
