Can you get lay crumbles instead of pellets? My feed store doesn't sell them, but WalMart does. If I'm in a bind, I'll buy it at WalMart, and my birds inhale it!
Did you get her as a chick? BSL's cockeral's hatch with a white spot on their heads while the pullets don't have a spot. It's easy to sex BSL's when they are chicks. They are one of the easiest breed of chickens to sex.
When my BSL hen Little Shadow was hatched I knew that she was a pullet when I didn't see any white spot on her head.
Definitely a BSL. I have two; one is black with a bit of red on her breast. The other looks just like yours. She in fact looks a lot like my Welsummers, but has the darker head and darker legs.
Great layer.
Good to know! No, I got her about two weeks ago, after a neighbior's dog got one of my barred rock sweeties.
She's the last in pecking order and always kinda does her own thing but she's gettin there hehe. Does anyone know if there are laying crumbles instead of laying pellets? If so where can I get them? Chickens love crumbles but not pellets.
We have BSLs she looks alot like ours with more red on her. Some of ours have alittle red on their breast some have almost thier entire head & breast back to the wings covered in red feathers.
