I don't have any pictures just yet, but was wondering on my 10 week old EE's what can I look for to determine gender? They have virtually no combs, would that indicate pullet?

They are both the same age but one has saddle feathers the other doesn't.

Any ideas?

I'm not positive that this is how you sex EE's, but it might be...

I think it's the size and color of the comb, shape of saddle feathers, size of tail feathers, and over all coloring.

The tip offs for my cockerel were the following (I used my sure pullet as comparison)

Narrow, upright tail feathers early on while the pullets are fanned out until they are about 11 or 12 weeks old. The comb on a 10 week old EE cockerel would be pronounced and definately have redness to it. The pullet's comb usually starts turning pinkish around 11 or 12 weeks. This is my EE pullet at 12 weeks old and I will show a picture of my 5 week old EE cockerel too.

Hope this helps at all! I don't have my EE boy anymore so no idea what he looks like now but he was pretty obvious around 5 weeks

By 10 wks a cockerel should start to develop a comb by now with EE. Unfortunately with the EE they usually have something else mixed in with them so you can't say 100%. I would look to see the shape of the feathers for sure. They should have rounded tips especially in the neck area. Pointed ones are for cockerels.

My EE's just turned 10 weeks old and just now can i tell on a few of them. For mine, their comb is much wider with three rows of peas and are very red. Also, on two of them, their tail feathers have a few slight curled feathers at the end. The one i was 99% positive was a roo was confirmed this morning when i heard him crow

My pullets have only one pronounced row of peas and are not that bright red. the roo legs are also much thicker.

Thanks for all the fast replies. Morgan mine look just like the last two photos you have, only their necks are not quite that thick. I just really hope they are pullets cause I'm kinda attached to them

I'll see if I can get some pictures posted on here and then maybe you can tell me for sure.

It sounds like you have two girls then especially if the combs are similar. Even though EE's are hard to tell the gender of by about 10 weeks it should be clear on the comb. If the combs look similar to that EE pullet above you should be set with two girlies

fingers crossed for you! My EE is awesome!

I hope and wish it were as easy as the comb! I have 7 EE that are 13 weeks. Going by comb vs. no comb, I thought I had 3 girls and 4 boys. I posted pictures here and most of the ones I thought were girls, everyone seems to think are boys and vice versa. My impression was that you can't go by comb. I'm completely confused and just waiting for some crows! Hope you get pullets!!
