EE sex

I have an EE I'm puzzled on. From Welp Hatchery supose to be pullet however this one is larger than the others and has a gray beard against it's more brown/gold body? This pic is at 4 weeks. I will post a newer one soon. Can a pullet have a different beard?

It's soo early for me to say. My EE cockerel Rusty was 6 weeks old before I even suspected he might be a roo.

A little early to tell your chicks sex yet but EE pullets can have different colored beards.
You'll also likely see some color changes as your chick matures.

Just for fun here's a couple of my EE pullets at 10wks. ( 3 weeks ago )
The one on the right had a very grey beard at 6wks ( just like her cheek fluff ) but as you can see it's developed into a more reddish color as she's matured.

That's part of EE fun. The colors change a lot as they grow ( and then colored eggs

No worries - it's a girl. She has very typical hatchery EE pullet coloring. The boys don't feather out with that type of feather coloring/pattern. EEs can't always be sexed by their coloring as chicks, but yours is one that can.

I have several pullets like yours - the beard colors do vary (one has a dark beard and looks like a bearded circus lady).


These are my original 3 EE chicks at 7-8 weeks of age. The two in the back were my obvious pullets - the one laying down was harder to figure out (she was bigger, wider comb, etc).

The EEs do change colors as they mature. Here they are all grown up (same chicks as pic #2)
