I hatched a batch of chicks from my EE roo and Welsummer hen. I got 6 and 2 are more silver colored and 4 are more brown. Also the silver ones have green legs, the browns have yellow...and the silver have single wing feathers and the browns have double. The browns also have tail feathers development. They are 1.5 weeks old.

Can anyone tell me if the silver chicks are males or is that just that they have the Olive Egger genes and the others don't?

Roo: complete with frostbite

That's one of the prettier EE boys I've seen.. very Salmon Faverolle looking. Maybe gold or silver duckwing??

Silver is sex linked or can be.. but I don't think your cross has achieved that.

Wing feather sexing I think is only accurate when it's a slow X fast feathering gene. EE being cross.. I'm gonna say also not LIKELY the case here.

Dark shank color is also a POSSIBLE sex linked trait.. not achieved in this crossing.

And of course a barred dame to your rooster would give sex links.

FWIW.. I think the silver you are seeing is BLUE.. And that's a blue partridge hen.. do Welsummer even come in blue?

Thanks for sharing your fun mystery with us. :pop

Thank you. Your thoughts are helpful. I'll update as they grow

Just thought I'd update. The browns chicks are male and the silver ones are female. I can't get a great picture but here is what I have
Female in front male in back

So, in my observation these chicks are sex linked!!:weeI've had another hatch since which also had just the two coloring patterns.
