Eeeeeekkkkk! Mice!

I hope you're right. There was just someone here on BYC that lost their dog after they ate a poisoned mouse. A good friend of mine almost lost his dog after an encounter with a poisoned mouse. It was an expensive vet bill to get the dog healthy again.

Some posions say "no secondary poisoning" on them. They are not supposed to harm an animal that eats the poisoned mouse/rat. The brand I had was called "Wipe-Out".

Just be careful with poison, read the label completely and then read it again. Try to stay away from single-dose as they are more toxic, at work we have good success with warfarin, but snap with peanut butter mashed into the bait cup and placed out at night and removed in the morning works.

My barred rock eat mice all the time, cruel to watch, but she loves them
She also made a meal of a baby snake today, my husband was in total awe and has a total new respect for my chickens....

Sounds like if you have lights in your coop you have an electrical outlet in there as well. Have you thought about those gadgets that emit a high frequency sound that drives the mice batty and they evict themselves from the premises. There is no poison used. Just not sure if the high frequency will bother your chickens ears.

I’ve used them at this time of year in our garage and they work.

Yep...I have two excellent mousers (and one not so great one...lol). All are indoor/outdoor pet cats. They also snag quite a few moles (an added benefit, as our yard stays torn up w/mole tunnels). A small light in the coop would probably help too... as would getting rid of any "clutter" you might have laying about. Mice don't really bother me...I'd be reacting that way if it was big spiders scurrying though...lol.
