EE'ers lay later?

I'm wondering if anyone has an EE'ers that seem to lay later (in age) than other ones. I have 8 chickens all together, 5 of them are laying. I have 2 EE'ers that are obviously not laying yet. I'd know since their eggs will be blue or green, not brown. 5 of the chickens are 21-22 weeks old, the other 3 are 1 year old.

It took 28 weeks for my EE to lay her first egg.

I just had 1 of mine start this weekend she is 21 weeks my first green egg. But I also have another one I saw lay an egg, and it was brown. So they can be brown too.

yep two things... one: EEs can lay any color of egg, including brown. It's more common than you might think. I know a couple of people who were expecting a blue or green egg and thought their EEs weren't laying, but then they caught them in the act and they were just laying brown eggs! EEs are cross-breeds and can have many different gene combinations.

two: my EEs were all my earliest layers. 19 weeks 6 days was my first egg and it was from an EE. All 6 were laying by about 22 weeks. However, like I said... they have so many different gene potentials, depending on who is breeding them, that maybe you just have some that will lay later. Watch to see if any hang out on a nest and then you get brown eggs. If not... I'm sure they'll start soon! Good luck to you!

I have experienced delayed laying in mine, as well- my first egg was at 24 weeks, and I have 3 yet to start laying.

I believe both of my EEs are laying, but they are laying brown/cream colored eggs...I got 9 eggs the other day and have 10 girls

I was really hoping for colored eggs...oh well, maybe next time!

My EEs started laying at 18-20 weeks.

Hmmm... Mine are 19 weeks old but don't look like they are anywhere near laying ready. One of them is getting a red face but one has a black comb and the other is still kind of flesh colored. I thought they layed much later. I guess I will just have to wait and see.
