Eek! Crested duckling from non-crested parents?

Hi!
Imagine my shock and surprise to see Zack and Zoe's second duckling is crested!!!
They are both *normal-looking* Pekins.
The first duckling was *normal*. The second d'ling hatched last night and it's crested!!!
I had a group of crested whites (Pekins?) from MMcM so I (LOL) didn't think it was deformed or such --- but I didn't think 2 non-crested ducks could make crested babies.

Where did the crest come from? Was there a crested breed crossed into Pekins or is it a naturally occurring thing?

As far as I know it is just an anomoly. Then once a crested duck happens, people breed for it.

I used to have a crested pekin duck named Puff.

They are cute, but they have the 'pain-in-the-butt' factor going X 10 --- they can flood a brooder in less time than it takes to water the other brooders.
But they are darn cute.
I should have more ducklings hatching next week. It will be interesting to see if I get more crested d'lings.
