... Then again, I haven't read the books in a few years, I don't think. And the last one that I read was the final one, which was pretty dark, if I recall correctly....
Never watched the movies.

When I say a fun, light, read, I mean something that reads fast. They got dark, yes, but were so very obviously fantasy that the dark was still more interesting than horrifying to me.

If you want dark, read Thomas Harris' books. Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, etc.

I used to think my chickens were similar to ‘real’ Phoenixes (which is why one of my chickens is called Phoenix) and then I realised that it was fantasy! I was a naive child!

The first few books of each of those series. They both went on faaar too long. I swear in the Wheel of Time series I got to the point where I just wanted Rand to go mad and destroy the world already. Then I stopped reading them.

@MarkJr If you like fantasy, read Elizabeth Moon's series "The Deed of Paksenarrion". Those are really good. Anything by Elizabeth Moon is good.
