Anyone else have an EE who's green egg color changed? All of my EE's lay a light mint green to pale blue eggs. One hen started out that way and now she lays light olive colored eggs! The eggs are also very long and pointy like torpedoes! Its very strange. She is one of my older hens. What could cause her eggs to change color like this? It seems as if they are going to be this color from now on, they don't seem to change back to their original shade, even after a few months break from laying in the winter. Could there be something wrong with her? Her health perhaps?

The coloring on an egg is darker the longer it takes to get down the tubes. As a hen ages she lays less frequently and therefore it can darken some. The actual base color does not change just can be lighter or darker. Gloria jean

YES!!! My Georgia changed from aqua to sage... sometimes she puts out a sage-y aqua now. She is pretty young though, maybe just took a while to develop her real color? They say that other hens change color, like Marans having darker eggs after molt, maybe this is something similar? She is healthy though... and has been giving us this new color for over a month.

Georgia is a pullet and has been giving us about an egg a day for about three months.
