Wow! An egg a day right from the beginning? Our Leghorn seemed to be laying regularly from as soon as we found her first nest, but we have no idea how long it was between when she started laying and when we found the nest. She's been laying every day since then, usually one egg a day sometimes two. Our Seabright usually lays one every other day, sometimes we get two days in a row from her. And our Barred Rock just started last Saturday, and has been an every other day girl so far. We'll see what the EE does. I'm pretty sure she's a McMur's girl too. I traded my mom 3 hens for 2 guineas early in the Summer...I got the best of that deal!!
I don't think the egg size changed from any of the other three - like from their first to now. The Barred Rock took forever getting that first egg out, I was surprised how big her eggs are compared to the Leghorn's eggs! They hardly fit in the egg crate.
I'm always scared something's going to get one of our girls. So far so good though. They're good at running for cover whenever they hear anything odd. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!
We got our first blue egg too today! We have three older chickens (2 RIR, 1 Barred Rock) who are 1 year old and each lay about 5 eggs for 7 days. Our three EEers are exactly 6 months old. I noticed just yesterday that one of them started doing the "squatting" thing when I came up behind her, so I was hoping it was going to be soon....and then lo and behold today we got one very light blue egg. Can't wait to see if the other two start soon! I wonder if it helped that yesterday I kinda of gave them tons of treats and food
