EE's slow to mature?

Thanks for all the replies.

Guess we'll keep waiting while hoping and praying that when she does lay it's colored eggs. Hopefully a real nice blue after waiting this long to get the first one.

I was originally planning on keeping the roo to introduce the colored egg gene into my flock but after the RIR's were laying months before the EE, we decided to drop that idea and off he went to freezer camp. Maybe we'll hatch a few of her eggs if they are colored, but I wasn't going to be feeding a roo as well as a late laying hen just to introduce a late lay gene into the flock.

thanks again

Well, she's 2 days short of 1 year old but she has finally started to lay.

Yesterday, I found a small blood covered green egg in the nest box. I was really surprised that it took a year to start laying, I was beginning to suspect that she was laying brown eggs and we just hadn't seen her doing it yet.

At least the waiting and wondering is over now that we know she is actually laying colored eggs. Now we'll see how often she lays.

Anyone else ever have a pullet be a year old before laying?

She's lucky we were suspecting that she laying brown eggs or I probably would have culled her already before she reached a year old.

Hopefully now that she's laying she'll be productive.
