EE's wide range of colors.

EE's are nothing more than a cross between a blue or green egg laying bird (An Ameraucana or Araucana) and some other breed of chicken, that doesnt lay blue eggs - these breeds are usually great egglayers....

For instance, Im fairly sure my two EEs are crosses between Ameraucanas and Leghorns.

Hatcheries do this for big money - Its hard to find very many real Ameraucanas or especially Araucanas. So, they improvise so they can get more chicks faster. See? And when they sell their stock as true Ameraucanas and Araucanas, the people who buy them do it too.

Hence, EEs come in so many different and widely varied colorations because there is no standard for them - because they are mutts

Easter Eggers are fun birds. I have EEs as well as true Ameraucanas from good breeder lines. The problem with not knowing what you have is that if you enter your EE in a sanctioned show as an Ameraucana, you will be disqualified. And if you sell an EE to someone as an Ameraucana, you are techinically misrepresenting the bird. So, it helps to know that Ameraucanas only come in certain colors and that EEs are not purebreds.

To every chicken there is a purpose; to every purpose there is a chicken.

Some to lay plentiful, bountiful eggs.

Some to exhibit plentiful, refined plumage.

Some to show and some to lay.

Some for blue and others for many colours.

Some for pets and others for profit.

To every purpose there is a chicken; to every chicken there is a purpose.
