Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if ashes are of any use against flies?

I already have ashes in the chicken coop and run and was wondering if adding more could chase the flies away.

Coop and run are covered with 600 to 700 kilos of sand (over a total coop/run surface of 70 sq. ft. and I regularly employ a leaf rake to tidy up.

Many thanks!

There is no evidence that ashes affect flies at all. They are good for the birds for dusting which in turn keeps mites away.

The ashes in the sand may help keep it dry. That might help with the flies. I use the bag fly trap that has the horrible smelling liquid in it. It worked well here.
